Increase Your Blog Subscriptions: How to Activate FeedBurner Subscribe Via Email

January 12, 2009 · 15 comments

Even though it is likely that most bloggers are using RSS to subscribe to their favorite blogs it is always a good idea to provide multiple options. When Dennis Edell commented here yesterday he asked that we enable the option to subscribe via email in FeedBurner. We do our best to quickly act on requests from our readers and offer this link for those who are interested in subscribing by email:

Subscribe to GROWMAP by Email

Eventually we’ll probably add that function to the right sidebar near the existing Subscribe to GrowMap by Rss function. For now we’ve also added it to the About: What IS a GrowMap page too.

We’re curious about how many prefer subscribing via email to using RSS feeds or reading our feed at FriendFeed. If you’d like to share what you prefer please do leave us a comment below. Wherever you read us we want to know what you think!

FeedBurner is a very cool tool that does exactly what you state, it lets you offer a wide variety of different RSS feeds from your weblog with minimal fuss and it also lets you keep track of RSS subscriptions.

Feed-burner is a great tool to increase your subscriptions. The best part of using feed-burner is that you can also track the subscribers and additional stats about them.

Thanks for making the subscription easier through emails because that makes it easy to keep track.

However I just wonder whether we can send newsletters through FeedBurner to the person? Like there are some blogs where I can subscribe to their newsletter although they don’t use FeedBurner for that.

Feedburner is a great way to promote your content and increase your blog visitor traffic.Email subscription is good for those who are not willing to subscribe through RSS feeds.
However the Feedburner URL of a blog post is somewhat complicated than the RSS Feed URL.

@Dennis One of these days I’ll learn to add things to the sidebar. Between the recurring flu and my technical advisor traveling that hasn’t made it to the top of the priority list yet. It isn’t because I don’t believe you and hopefully it will get added soon.

@Jay Apparently there are some who still prefer email to RSS as indicated by both Dennis and Don.

@Don Thanks for weighing in. I suspect they may have so many email subscribers because they were around prior to widespread use of RSS; however, it is always wise to offer as many options as possible.

I agree with Dennis. Providing the option is important since not everyone is familiar or comfortable with RSS. One big blog I know has about one third of its subscribers subscribe via e-mail.

I’ve often wonder, does providing a RSS feed help increase visitors? If so, how does it work?
