UPDATE: In some just breaking news for MyLocalLookup, BreakingNews will be featuring MyLocalLookup search boxes on their growing network of sites. Currently operating in 54 locations, you can see one at Breaking San Franciso News. Check the right sidebar to see if they have a site near you.

Since the best blog on Local SEO referred to us as the best blog on Local Search, we strive to live up to our reputation by staying on top of the very best Local Search Directory offerings. We are really excited to announce an opportunity to reach local markets with the potential for explosive growth through television exposure.

There is only one Local Search Directory we have seen offering business listings that are featured on the Web pages of television stations. MyLocalLookup search boxes are being featured above the fold on the home pages of major television networks including Fox, NBC, CBS, MY Network TV and CW. The stations are actively promoting mylocallookup with infomercials and thirty second commercial spots.

MyLocalLookupShort on time? You can go get your free listing right now. I hope you’ll keep reading though so you don’t miss out on a huge opportunity when they roll out television coverage in your area.

You can play this short video (51 seconds) to find out more:

My most observant readers have noticed the yellow mylocallookup search box I added last week. (Look just to the right.) There have been an amazing 678 searches already done – amazing because who heads to my blog to find a local business?

Imagine how many will use their search to find businesses when they visit the Web site of their local television station? Actually, you don’t have to imagine as I asked for some preliminary numbers:

What is significant about these numbers is that they are highly targeted to a particular location and those doing the searches are seriously interested in finding a business where they live and work. There are forty-four television stations already on board with five more deals in place and ten other sites featuring the search box including real estate and city sites like MeetOrlando.com.

MyLocalLookup is expanding and I predict it will spread like wildfire because:

  • they already have relationships in the television industry that will generate excellent traffic growth
  • their very visible search box will be featured on a growing number of sites
  • major network television stations are running commercials about them
  • users like to use it – they already have visitor loyalty (see Quantcast data below)

Created by Rev Up Media Productions, a full service media promotions service that offers turn-key sales programs including BeyondtheTV, mylocallookup goes beyond Local Search. They assist television stations and local media with online promotions and local businesses with professionally produced television commercials. More on that in a future post.

We can not emphasize enough the importance of adding your business now so you will be listed when the first television promotions come to your area. It costs nothing and only takes a few minutes. Get your FREE mylocallookup listing now. All they need are your name, address, phone number, email address and URL. Absolutely no strings attached.

Thanks for the heads up on MyLocalLookup….although I’m not very impressed by this startup, as it appears they are entering a really crowded field!

Hi Matt,

I agree there are already so many Local Search directories that the field IS overcrowded, having television stations promoting you will definitely give them traction.

Look for a follow-up post next week showing the impressive position their search box and BeyondtheTV sites are being featured. You may change your mind when you see the actual pages and the commercials TV stations are running to promote them.

Apparently that got the attention of Local.com – a local search directory with much deeper pockets – as they have moved into competition with them. I would definitely add your business there so you’re listed should a Sacramento station start promoting them.

Don’t you think the number of searches already done HERE of all places is impressive? Their search box gets more clicks than anything on the entire page – actually anything on the entire site!

Local search I think is only going to continue to grow as people become more accustomed to using the Internet. Phone book is dying and something need to replace it.

Hi Alex,

Now that Google has raised the visibility of local businesses with what SEOs call the Ten Pack (local results appearing at the top of the organic results) faster growth is inevitable.

The best thing about Local Search Directories for many businesses is listings are free. When there were only printed yellow pages books getting listed was expensive. The only advantage then was simplicity as there was originally only one “phone” book and later several.

Now even new businesses getting started can take advantage of free listings in dozens of directories. While that does make things more complicated at least most of them are free.

My advice is to submit to all free directories, see which ones are sending you traffic and buyers, and then consider becoming more active and upgrading in those directories.

Even though they’re called “local search” I recommend them even for online businesses. As long as you have a physical location you can get listed. They’re great for the backlinks.

MyLocalLookup may bring you more than just backlinks though! Since they have television exposure they may bring you more buyers from your particular geographic area than you could reach otherwise.

Hm, that’s an interesting idea for a local directory. However, I’m seeing that their results are just scraped from Google and they link directly to the Google Local listings. So what does “adding your site” even mean here? Is there any benefit to it if you’re already in Google Local?

Currently we do integrate google results with our free listings. This will change when we re-launch MyLocalLookup with only our data. The results are way better and the new layout is cleaner and easier to use as well. Check back August first!

Hi Fujita,

There are dozens of Local Search Directories but this is the first one to use old media (television) and the Internet together. It isn’t unusual for a new directory to either use an existing database or to backfill some results to ensure that users have a better experience. This is often temporary until they get sufficient listings of their own.

I can tell they aren’t using the entire Google Local database because I just did some searches in both for businesses I knew were in Google Local. They aren’t in MyLocalLookup yet. I can get additional information from them.

It only takes a minute and there is benefit so I would definitely add my business there. Google Local won’t be featured on television stations in the prominent way they are. I’ll be publishing some screen shots to elaborate in a follow-up post about them next week. The real value will be in having a very prominent listing when they are actively being promoted on television. More on that later.

Google Local is a place one should be as well… As business owners we need to list our business in every possible directory out there. I’ve played with MyLocalLookup and find it to be simple with pretty good results – Their paid listings offer something no other search does – 1 minute of video is included… that’s unique – most paid search listing don’t offer that.

Thanks Growmap for making this directory your focus.

Hi Jeff,

I agree and if you click on the Local tab just under the header I have pages with many other free directories. I have also found a shortcut for getting those free listings done faster and am working on a process that includes the shortcut to be published soon. There are so many of them now that we need a process and a way to track these listings.

If you think MyLocalLookup is interesting now wait until you see what else they’re doing. I will be publishing a follow-up to this post probably tomorrow.
