KeywordLuv: How Using It Benefits Us All

Do Follow Blogs - Click for image credit

Time is our most precious resource. All bloggers and business owners wish they had more of it and continually seek ways to accomplish more each day.

Scroll Down for DoFollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv blogs by Niche!

KeywordLuv and CommentLuv are effective ways to make every comment we write or receive provide far more benefits.

I strongly recommend bloggers join the do follow movement and install the CommentLuv and KeywordLuv plugins.

We and many of our favorite bloggers are focusing more and more of our time and efforts exclusively in dofollow blogs. The CommentLuv community is especially strong and readers can easily see CommentLuv featured posts. They may not be aware that installing CommentLuv and registering your site allows you to suggest one of your last ten posts and in the CommentLuv Premium up to five of your top pages or posts.

The benefits of using KeywordLuv are not as obvious to many
so I want to spell them out and explain exactly
why I so strongly recommend using it.

First you need to clearly understand what anchor text is and why it is so important to you.

Anchor text is simply the words used in the actual link that tell the search engines what the page the link points to is about.

Many bloggers are NOT using anchor text effectively or do not even know what phrases are important to them. There is nothing more important to your getting more traffic from the search engines than clearly targeting your best anchor text. Read my building traffic post for how to do this.

BENEFITS OF KEYWORDLUV:

  1. Most bloggers and blog readers dislike keywords in the name field instead of a name. The reason commentators do that is because without KeywordLuv whatever is in the Name field is what is used as anchor text – and that is NOT effective. Installing KeywordLuv fixes that issue by allowing commentators to separate their name from the keywords.
  2. KeywordLuv allows business owners and bloggers to select their own anchor text and pair it with the most targeted landing page.
  3. Bloggers can more clearly understand what their commentators do and what their major interests are based on the keywords they use.
  4. When we blog about our regular commentators we can use the anchor text and links they shared to ensure we are providing them with maximum benefits.

KeywordLuv allows us all to combine commenting and SEO efforts so that we can interact more frequently, strengthen our blogging community relationships and make our sites easier to find in the search engines which will increase our traffic, subscribers and potentially our incomes.

HOW TO USE KEYWORDLUV:

KeywordLuv is simple to use. Instead of putting your name or keywords into the Name field of a comment, use YourName @ Your Keywords.

Here are some examples so everyone is clear on the idea:

Notice that only the keyword phrase is linked and that is exactly what your comment name field will look like too. You can vary the anchor text you choose.

For maximum benefit choose specific pages or posts optimized for each phrase and link that specific page/post to that specific keyword phrase.

You will not end up with enough incoming links to any one page if you do not send specific keyword phrases to specific pages/posts. You can maximize the effectiveness of what you write by optimizing a page specifically for each keyword phrase – especially if you are offering services or products.

Interested in a new career? Get certified on Oracle or Citrix technologies. Download 1Y0-A09 dumps as well as 1Y0-A17 dumps to prepare and pass your exam plus get free demos of 1z0-051 dumps.

That involves good timing in blogs using CommentLuv so read on for how to change your landing page to match your keyword phrase. When you register your site at CommentLuv you entered your URL. For CommentLuv to work you must enter it into the URL field EXACTLY as you registered it including using or not using the www and including or not including the trailing slash / at the end. You may want to copy and paste it somewhere so you can paste it back in later.

If you don’t see your last ten posts in CommentLuv the most likely cause is the URL you entered is not exactly how you registered it.

To link your selected anchor text to a page different than the one you registered with CommentLuv, fill in your comment as usual, select the CommentLuv post you wish to feature and then do this:

Just before you submit the comment, paste the URL of your preferred post/page into the URL field and immediately submit the comment.

It takes CommentLuv some time to realize the URL field has changed. If you forget or take too long you will lose the CommentLuv featured post you selected. If that happens just paste your registered URL back into the Website URL field and click into the body of the comment. That will prompt CommentLuv to find your last ten posts again. Select the one you want, and then change the URL again and immediately submit the comment.

By installing KeywordLuv you allow business and blog owners to help themselves to generate more traffic and more sales.

Some will notice that I keep comments most bloggers would summarily delete. I do this because I know that businesses are in dire economic condition and it is essential that small and online businesses survive and even thrive in spite of the current economic climate. I encourage my fellow bloggers to be forgiving of those who are new and haven’t learned to write excellent comments yet. Is it not better to educate them and even the offshore SEO companies they hire so they can call learn? Many businesses do not have the time or skills needed to leave their own comments and may not know the difference between spam and adding to the conversation. We can educate them and make the world a better place. For those bloggers willing to do more I ask that you participate in my new BizLuv MEME and find out how you can Support Your Favorite Businesses and benefit your own blog at the same time.

Note that not all blogs using CommentLuv or KeywordLuv are Do Follow.

I suspect that many assume they are and I personally find it disingenuous to use  these plugins that are so connected to the dofollow community and make them nofollow. For this reason I choose not to include nofollowed KeywordLuv sites in my KeywordLuv Twitter List. CommentLuv blogs are included on my DoFollow Twitter List. Would anyone prefer that I create a DoFollow CommentLuv List?

DOES DOFOLLOW NEGATIVELY AFFECT PAGE RANK?

It is possible but I have not seen any definitive evidence that it does. LATEST: In the last PageRank update, this blog was dropped from PR4 to PR3 while Kikolani with a similar amount of traffic was raised to PR5. Here are several reasons that this blog is more likely to be penalized by Google than other DoFollow blogs:

  1. I frequently and publicly call Google to task because Google IS Evil.
  2. GrowMap outed Akismet for censoring our best commentators, would not back down when Automattic objected to what we wrote about Akismet, and now offer this Akismet alternative.
  3. Comments that many bloggers would delete are approved here at GrowMap because we know the importance of anchor text for small businesses. We also know that link builders are people too – and often they are bloggers, affiliate marketers, or supporting small businesses.

Even if we were not manually G-slapped for #1 or #2 (and that DOES happen – see what happened to Ron Cripp’s traffic from G when he published a post on how article marketing using completely original content can still work after the Google Panda Farmer update – #3 could definitely be the cause. We DO have links that G would not like.

Each of us has a choice to make. Will we bow down and lick G’s boots or will we do what is right and support each other?

I for one will not bow to their pressures because I know where that road leads. Maybe today you will still have traffic but tomorrow they will want something else from you. Bowing to tyranny never works in the long run. IMPORTANT: I am NOT recommending that other bloggers publicly defy Google or write posts criticizing them – especially if your business income depends on traffic from them for now. I AM recommending that you quietly support each other and build links and especially recommend each other directly in your blogs and across social networks. Read the ongoing Dofollow debate on the link immediately above and Dan’s DoFollow Versus NoFollow post for insights including comments from me and examples of posts here and on popular dofollow sites that have strong pageranks in spite of tons of outgoing links. This indicates that if you quietly allow at least some of your readers links – maybe less than I do here – that you are not very likely to be penalized with lower pagerank. That said, PageRank is not nearly as important as traffic. G can take away ALL your pagerank and still send you just as many visitors. There are many blogs that are PR0 (usually because they inadvertently broke a rule – often by using text link ads or selling text links without no-following them) that have just as much traffic from G after their PR drop than they had before. Eventually, the new Chrome block data can be used as an excuse to remove any site from search engine indexes and claim it is “what the users wanted”. Just as Akismet censors bloggers’ comments, that data will censor our sites right out of the serps. See my post on CrowdSourcing failures for more details.

WHERE TO GET THE PLUGINS:

  • DoFollow plugin – We were using the Semio Logic Do Follow plugin V4.0 but they have removed the page for it from the Internet and their Twitter account has been inactive since Aug 17, 2010. We now use CommentLuv Premium which provides DoFollow as one of the eight built-in plugins. If you use the free version of CommentLuv try one of the others listed on Andy Beard’s DoFollow Plugins List.
  • KeywordLuv plugin – I claimed @KeywordLuv0 to make the KeywordLuv plugin and this information post easy to find
  • CommentLuv plugin | How to use CommentLuv with IntenseDebate
  • How to tell if your Theme is compatible and how to use KeywordLuv compatibility mode if it isn’t.

I am currently compiling lists of Keyword Love enabled blogs, keywordluv lists and will add keyword luv tools if I find any.

Why should you link to bloggers who use KeywordLuv? Because they understand the importance of anchor text and are highly likely to add high quality links to your sites!

KEYWORDLUV LISTS:

Please leave links to any additional Keyword Luv lists or tools you know of in the comments of this post. Thank you.

KEYWORD LUV BLOGS BY NICHE:

Use these lists to find KeywordLuv enabled blogs in your niche. I highly recommend going beyond exchanging comments to linking to and writing about each other’s sites.

Anchor text is so very important that if you appear in the list below I will edit yours on request. Just leave a comment in this post.

Thank you for this excellent article. This must have taken you quite some time to write it and I appreciate you did. This must be the best explanation and presentation of keywordluv out there. I never exactly understood what that was about, but after reading your article I will probably get rid of Disqus comment system on my blog and install these plugins.

Welcome Marko,

I am glad to contribute to a better understanding of dofollow and the CommentLuv and KeywordLuv plugins. You can use KeywordLuv with Disqus but I personally prefer the CommentLuv KeywordLuv combination. While I sometimes comment in Blogger or Disqus blogs because it is less enjoyable I do so far less frequently and have to really want to say something to do it.

Be sure to let me know if you decide to become dofollow and use these two plugins. Knowing that consistency is key to success I am focusing almost exclusively on interacting in the dofollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv community.

First, let me say thank you for taking the time to put this post together that must have taken some serious time commintment on your part! I would also like to say that I agree with you on the Comment/Keyword Luv blogs that land in the no-follow category. Doesn’t really make sense. These tools were designed specifically with the dofollows in mind.

Welcome Planetwebfoot,

I agree but many do not. We have been having a dofollow nofollow debate over at Keith Bloementhal’s hotblogtip blog.

I want to share my final comment in that thread below and encourage those trying to decide between dofollow and nofollow to read the entire discussion in Keith’s blog.

I do not believe that today dofollow comments damage our PageRank or search engine positions and therefore I do not believe that allowing dofollow comments reduces the benefits to those to whom we link.

Even if do follow blogs are being penalized I will continue to support dofollow. As of right now though I do not believe it to be a serious risk and I present as my evidence these four blogs (yours and three others).

Yours [Keith's] is currently PR1 and mine is PR3. Few bloggers include as many outbound links in their posts as I do or have as many dofollow comments and replies in their posts.

Of the ten posts currently appearing in the most popular plugin on my site, six are PR2 even though one of those has more comments than any other post on the site and others have very large numbers of comments.

Further, as I have higher priorities and am far more lax about which comments are appearing than any blogger I can name, there are many comments purists would consider spam. Yet those posts are still PR2.

I concede that perhaps their PR would be higher if there were fewer links or my blog were not dofollow. I do not know of a way to determine that. I also concede that I could be wrong and most importantly that this could change at any moment.

I present as further evidence the blog of Kristi Hines at Kikolani.com. If there is a stronger proponent of Dofollow than me it is Kristi. Her blog is PR4 and far better known than mine.

Since she does not use a Most Popular plugin I can not easily share how many of her posts have PR but I would expect it to be similar to mine.

John Sullivan has already commented in this thread and he is another backer of dofollow. His blog is PR4 and if any blog was going to get slapped for controversial content plus being dofollow it would be his.

It would take an SEO more versed in how PR is awarded to determine whether or not the current PRs of these three blogs are lower than they would be if they were nofollow but it IS obvious that they DO have PR.

Based on the above evidence it does not appear that dofollow is detrimental at this time.

It is just so amazing that KeywordLuv Plug-Ins can give the commentators some link juice by not looking at the comments so “spammy”. Ever since this Plug-In came out in the web I really appreciate blogs that enable this feature so that commentators can also be commended on their anchor text that they wanted to rank in the serps.

This plugin is a must for all with a blog. Since I’ve installed I have definitely seen more traffic to my blog. 90% of visitors leave comments that are worth while; however, inevitably I also get the usual spam trying to promote xxx sites. On a whole this is well worth while for generating interest and conversation – just look at all the comments and conversations here – that says it all.

Hi. I think I have it now. I was not leaving a space between my name and the @ sign.

By the way…re the blog I was talking about (ohioquotes.com/blog) as you can see, I never approve any of those goofy comments. I just delete everything without checking very many. But I’m sure I am missing some honest comments. I’ll have the tech person who handles that stuff look into adding the KeywordLuv.

Hi Ed,

If you get KeywordLuv installed and working do let me know in the comments of this post. All who are dofollow and add the plugin will be linked from the body of the post (which those who understand SEO know are more valuable links because the search engines weight them heavier) and also to my Twitter lists.

While most bloggers do take the easy path and just delete “goofy” comments for all of these reasons:

1) They do not want to upset their advertisers or companies whose products they review

2) They are afraid of what others will think

3) They are afraid their blog will be penalized because some of that type of comment could be considered spam

Since my focus is on teaching and supporting businesses I retain comments others would delete to provide benefit to real businesses that don’t yet understand how to effectively comment and to teach both those companies and the firms they are out-sourcing to how to stop spamming and start contributing.

Many do things poorly primarily because they don’t know any better. Deleting what they do does nothing to change that; teaching them to improve does.

Hello Merchant Capital,

While I do not enforce a comment rule insisting on a name, the primary reason for KeywordLuv is so that you CAN leave a name and only link to your selected anchor text. Many blogs will delete comments like yours and will less likely to delete it if you use a name.

For companies that leave comments for businesses I recommend that you have a consistent persona for each business. Use the same name and Avatar when commenting for that business and do not use the name of someone in that company. Doing that would be misleading and unwise.

Hi Ed,

There is a simple way to get better comments if you have CommentLuv installed in your blog. Go visit the blogs I linked to in this post and leave quality comments that share the most relevant of your latest posts in the CommentLuv section.

The best commentators are reading those blogs. If they like what you write or are interested in your featured post they can become your readers and commentators too.

Until you create relationships with other bloggers most of your comments will come from offshore workers whose native language is not English who are paid to try to get backlinks from blogs.

What many people are missing is that if the blogger knows you they often don’t mind letting you have a backlink to your business. If they don’t “know” you even quality comments are often considered spam.

We all need to polish our social skills and I include myself in that. I am often so focused on what needs to be accomplished that I have to remind myself to say hello first. :-)

Ok, I’ll play … after reading this article, I went ahead and re-installed a dofollow plugin on my blog. I’ve been using commentluv for years now, but can’t install keywordluv due to theme incompatibility.

I’m a little leary about this, as I have had do follow blogs in the past (heck, I still get traffic to this blog from dofollow lists … one of the reasons I’m switching back … it’s only fair). I went away from it due to comment spam. I’m willing to give it another try, but like Dennis above, I expect to be relatively ruthless when it comes to marking questionable comments as spam.

Should be interesting

Hello Todd,

Dofollow may not be for everyone and I am sorry to hear that KeywordLuv is incompatible with your Theme. I was not aware of that issue and will add a link to how to tell which Themes are KeywordLuv compatible to this post.

There are workarounds for KeywordLuv compatability mode if you’re interested.

While spammers do love to target dofollow and KeywordLuv enabled blogs I suspect they also hit other blogs. I consider deleting their spam a small price to pay for saving small and online businesses and helping other bloggers to grow.

Many of our students love your site, and I can see why. Unfortunately, Akismet has been routinely turning business away from this site, since some WordPress owner somewhere made the decision for you that you didn’t want to hear from them.

As Provost of Linda Christas College, I have become concerned with the Akismet plug in.

Unfortunately, many WordPress bloggers are using Akismet as a censoring device rather than as a spam filter, thus automatically turning away project coordinators who happen to have left an opinion on a WordPress blog somewhere that its owner didn’t agree with.

Naturally, spam is to be discouraged. However, opinion is another matter.

Also, persons wishing eventually to monetize their blogs are being disadvantaged by Akismet in that commenters believe that they are being stopped from expressing opinion or asking product or service questions if they have been targeted by another WordPress blogger for censorship.

We would encourage you to contact Akismet with your concerns if indeed you do not agree with the policy of allowing another WordPress blogger to make the decision for you as to whether you will accept the philosophy or business of another net user.

Hello Dr. Ann,

Akismet is only a tool and like all tools it can be misused. Many bloggers including myself manually rescue comments that it marks as SPAM and we also mark comments as SPAM that it misses.

Any automated tool like Akismet is only as good as the data the users feed it and there is a wide range of capabilities among bloggers. There are also major issues with new commentators not clearly understanding what most bloggers would consider SPAM as well as a huge diversity among bloggers as to what SPAM is and is not.

Many of the comments I choose to keep in support of small businesses and other bloggers would definitely be deleted by most of the bloggers I interact with regularly. I have heard “why do you let spammers comment in your blog” from many.

Wanting more bloggers, businesses and commentators to clearly understand the big picture is often the motivation for what I choose to write here.

If Akismet deleted any comments I would be very concerned and remove it. As long as it keeps all comments and allows me to manually rescue them it is very useful as it does tend to grab all the obvious spammers.

If anyone ever notices that Akismet deletes comments so we don’t even see them I want to be the first to know. Please elaborate on what you mean by “Akismet has been routinely turning business away from this site”.

If you can provide me examples of comments you feel should have been visible here that are missing I would be happy to check into this and share what I find.

I really love the idea of BizLuv.

It seems so very friendly in that it acknowledges the interests of the commenter.

Anytime one acknowledges another’s interest that is remembered.

That is by using BizLuv, one invites the commenter into one’s personal circle.

By doing that, whatever the purpose of the site, it is advantaged.

Welcome Beth,

I bet your site is going to be wildly popular. I love Legos when they are used as educational toys. Have you seen any of the LegoCad projects?

I encourage anyone involved in education to look into the many uses for LegoCAD Software as fun ways to teach engineering and computers.

In regards to commentluv you can actually change the url after you’ve written the comment without worrying about it reverting to the original url as it will stay as it is as long as you don’t click in the comment box again.

Although I have both I limit the amount of keywords to 2 as some people have been getting carried away with it. I may consider changing it to three but I’m not sure yet.

Even though I’ve got it clearly defined some people still use 3, 4 or more keywords. Depending on the comment I may abbreviate them, consolidate them or delete the comment all together.

Thank you for commenting, Sire. I remember your two word limit because one of my favorite current keyword phrases is Social Media Marketing which I don’t use on your blog.

Any commentator trying to use more than one keyword phrase doesn’t clearly understand what the goal of what they are doing even is.

I appreciate your sharing that as long as we don’t click into the comment box again we won’t lose the selected CommentLuv post. I usually just paste the link just before I submit so I had not noticed that it would stay there indefinitely as long as you don’t click into the comment box again.

No matter what rules a blogger has there is no guarantee that commentators will always see them or if they do whether they will follow them. I always look for a commenting policy and do my best to meet the expectations of each blog.

Every time I think of my “friend of the blogger” exemption I have on one blog it makes me smile.

Thank you so much – both for using KeywordLuv and also for writing a blog post letting your readers know how to use it. And thank you, too, for the link to this post. The more visibility we have the more who will benefit.

I found your blog by following other KeywordLuv blogs and am really impressed with the resources you’re sharing here. I think sites like yours are actually raising the awareness of the rel=nofollow issue and like many others, I’d rather see more blogs going this way.

Welcome Jeff,

What I most wish to do is empower small and online businesses and bloggers to raise their visibility online and strengthen their leads and sales before the failing economy catches up with them.

The more bloggers we have in the DoFollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv community (and sub-communities by niche) the easier it will be to find and support each other.

I am asking all KeywordLuv bloggers to consider linking to this post to make the word KeywordLuv or phrase KeywordLuv Lists as the words they link. That will make sure this post stays highly visible on the search engines.

All Bloggers who have KeywordLuv dofollowed are asked to leave their links and desired anchor texts in the comments here so I can add them to the body of the post too.

The keywork luv is a excellent add-on, with all the no-follow blogs around its hard to build in-bound links. But it stops people posting rubbish!!!

Hello “coal scuttles”,

In most blogs comments without names will be deleted so be sure when commenting in KeywordLuv enabled blogs that you use a name and not just keywords.

For those who make a living doing link-building for others I recommend you have a complete persona that you use for each business including a name and Avatar connected to the email address you use for them.

Although Akismet and similar plugins are useful, no plugin can stop anyone from “posting rubbish” unless it blocks all comments; each blogger must do their own moderating of comments.

I am more lenient than most business blogs must be and thank my readers for being tolerant of the comments I leave that most others would delete. Thank you all for understanding.

Hello Felisha,

Thank you. May I recommend that you be a little less profuse in your compliments? They would make many bloggers uncomfortable and make your comments seem more spammy.

You also need to add a bio and a URL to your Twitter profile. When people see a profile with no bio or link they immediately think spammer. If you don’t have a domain of your own you can get your own free SEO-optimized ComLuv WordPress blog or at least use another Social Networking profile so we can find out more about you.

comment luv and keyword luv are the wonderful options to add to your blog. It gives readers incentive to add relevant comments by being rewarded with a backlink.

Hi Sam,

There will always be spammers but my hope is to convert at least some of them to contributing members of the dofollow community. Anyone who makes a living obtaining backlinks for others needs to get very clear on what each blogger expects from them.
