DoFollow Lists of Blogs, Social Networking Sites and Forums; DoFollow Search Tool; Understanding Do Follow, No Follow

UPDATED Sep 24, 2011

A DoFollow site is one that allows the search engines to follow a link from their site to yours. This increases the number of incoming links to your site, increases the likelihood that someone will locate you when searching, and improves your site’s position in the search engines. We all have a limited amount of time so why not make it count?

Focus your NEW community building in blogs that believe in dofollow! Read about How KeywordLuv Benefits us All

  • DoFollow blogs are more likely to have really active and loyal communities and commentators
  • Bloggers who believe in Do Follow are far more likely to visit and comment in YOUR blog
  • They have a positive effect on your blog’s position in search engines like Google

Do remember to maintain your involvement in any active communities you’re already visiting and keep an eye out for quality blogs and visit them even if they are not DoFollow. Then use the DoFollow Tools linked below to find new places to participate.

The use of DoFollow and plugins like CommentLuv, KeywordLuv, Lucia’s Linky Love (anyone have a link that works or know if the Lucia’s Linky Luv plugin still works?) and others is growing so spend some time and select blogs that you will really benefit from interacting with because the content they offer adds value to what you do. Implement plugins that encourage conversations.

WARNING: Some blogs that Use CommentLuv and/or KeywordLuv are No Follow. We use the Highlight NoFollow links function in the  SEOBook Toolbar to verify them. We also recommend adding your dofollow sites to and and using this Verify Dofollow service.

Some blogs do revert to no follow because it does take a little more time to manage SPAM. The lists below will contain some blogs that are not still DoFollow but they are still valuable for locating blogs. You can usually use the SEOBook SEO Toolbar to instantly see whether comment links in a blog are dofollow or nofollow. (Some sites do block this function).

Or use the DoFollow Blog Search Engine to quickly determine if blogs are really Do Follow. You can also use that tool directly to search by keyword. It returns only those blogs that are confirmed to be Do Follow at the time of your search.

Thank you for such detailed advice. I am new to this whole world but am slowly learning the ropes. I think building additional links is a good thing and will naturally lead to more traffic.

Just came across this site and read with interest this post about do and no follow.
I am in process of building up links for my online store and so far my experience was 80% if not more of blogs, theme related to my shop are nofollow blogs. well, I still leave a comment if the post is good and I have something relevant to say. Even a nofollow link is good enough for getting some traffic maybe. What concerns the dofollow or keywordLuv blogs so they are still hard to find and I also found out, some of them are using keywordLuv as bait, just to get commentators coming to their blog, only to remove the link a day later again or to even change it to the link to their own blog. Isn’t that lovely?
Whenever I comment on a keywordLuv blog and next time I visit that blog again and my link was for no reason removed or manipulated in any way I leave the admin a “nice” thank you note and the bookmark gets deleted.
Using keywordLuv as bait only without being serious about to honor a comment with a backlink is just disrespectful and rude.

Hello Paula Jo,

Even many bloggers who install KeywordLuv are currently opposed to it being used to benefit small businesses. They are blogger-centric and feel only other bloggers who regularly comment in their blogs should receive links.

We must all do what we can to raise awareness and understanding on why supporting small businesses both online and off is best for us all. The number of bloggers who do understand is growing; however, even on many of them you must read their comment policies and introduce yourself.

My new KeywordLuv post contains additional details as do the posts I’ve written in support of small businesses such as the one I’ll feature in the CommentLuv link in this reply.

Everybody wants to leave links on dofollow blog, but I think no-follow blogs are great too. I don’t think Google is going to stop following the links if the blog is nofollow because I have had some good backlinks from some no-follow blogs.

Actually no one “invented” do follow because that was the natural state of all links from the beginning. What we do is remove nofollow which was “invented” by Google.

OK I got the math question right, but some of the info here is great but a lot more complicated to me, I have managed to get information overload on SEO/SEM and will take some time tofigure it all out LOL working from home ion the internet is just as demanding as being a slave to the man and still a slave to the mortgage.

Hello Cool,

Yes, it can be overwhelming and no matter how long you’ve been at it you will find you are continually having to learn new skills and change strategies. It is actually MORE demanding but much more satisfying than having a J.O.B. (Just Over Broke).

Hi Nick,

There are very strong dofollow, CommentLuv and KeywordLuv communities made up of power bloggers and Social Networking users who understand the importance of promoting each other.

I have a huge commentator community because I actively participate in those communities and support those bloggers by commenting, sharing their content and especially by linking to them in posts.

I just published a post specifically about KeywordLuv that is garnering support from that community. I’ll feature it in their reply so you and others can read about why I strongly recommend it.

Hi Tom,

While I do stay aware of what Google prohibits my philosophy is that blogs and Websites are for people – not search engines – so I make writing for them my priority. If Google decides they don’t like what I do I hope that enough people find me in other ways that it won’t make that much difference.

Over-reliance on Google traffic by most online businesses and especially ecommerce sites is very dangerous and currently almost impossible to avoid. I’m doing my best to find ways around that and will share them as they become available.

They are getting easier and easier to find and the easy way to see if they are dofollow is to install the SEOBook Toolbar that I explain in my post about Building Traffic and the one featured in CommentLuv in this reply.

We use KeywordLuv and CommentLuv in all of our blogs including Joint Venture blogs, blogs we work in, and blogs that others install for clients we advise. As far as we know there are no similar plugins and we would stick with these two even if there were.

I make all of my blogs dofollow for one reason only, so that people that visit my site have something to keep, they get a backlink from me for commenting on my blog. furthermore, this will ensure that they will come back to my blog again :)

I agree that one is better to have ‘do follow’ and some ‘no follow’ sites that have authority because I have heard that Google sees a site that has only ‘do follow’ links as a spam.

Hello Ahmed,

It is considered best to have a mix of different types of links. While Google could decide to discriminate against dofollow sites, it won’t be because they only have dofollow links.

Even do follow sites like this one have nofollow links because professional designed WordPress Themes like Thesis nofollow unimportant navigational links.

Sorry Edward,

Since I am not a SEO expert I don’t happen to know that and I rather suspect there is no one answer. Most likely there are multiple thresholds used by any search engine algorithm that can be tripped by too many of any one type of link or too many links from any particular source.

Which site to use depends on what your goals are. You would need a compelling reason to go to the trouble to create and promote your own instead of using one that already has users.

If anyone wants to know what Social Media Network to use for a specific purpose I would be happy to make recommendations.
