DMOz can help but it is not of crucial importance. that directory is old and will be replaced by something better soon

Thanks for the information. However, I have been running my online business for over a year now, and I have had difficulty getting listed in the major search engines. Just as Guy Web III stated earlier, I too have made several attempts to get listed listed in DMOZ. All my efforts have failed, but I am not giving up just yet.

Hello Web Guy,

I agree with you that it is probably both and most likely more the first than the second. That is why I wrote this post – to prevent others from stressing out over getting listed there. It is barely worth bothering to submit and definitely not worth working hard on.

Have you seen my post about a faster way getting free listings in major Local Search Directories? It is a much better use of our time.

I have been doing some sort of web publishing, designing and optimizing for 7 years and have yet to even once get any website listed in DMOZ. All attempts were professionally done sites, non-spammy, perfectly good websites. As well, all rules followed to a tee. Alas, nothing. The reasons can’t be discovered factually, but logical speculation leaves me with two possibilities. Either it is completely corrupt and only “the in-crowd” who know (and by ‘know’ I mean ‘pay’ -wink) an editor can get in, or they are extremely short-handed on personnel and websites just sit in a queue forever never reviewed at all and eventually purged for age. I actually think it is both.

not sure that its really a waste of time.for directory submission its very useful getting listed in DMOZ its helps in linking building.

Hi Martin,

While it is good if you can get it since many businesses have repeatedely struck out trying to get listed we can’t really call it “essential” any more. It is unfortunate that they do not step up and resolve the issues they have. They certainly could if they chose.
