How CommentLuv Grows Businesses and Blogs

Click here to find out How CommentLuv Works

Bloggers and businesses alike may not realize how very important CommentLuv can be to them. By joining the CommentLuv community you can connect with many others interested in the same things you are.

The CommentLuv featured posts you see in blogs that have CommentLuv installed make it easy to see which other commentators (people leaving comments) write about what you are interested in. Clicking on those comments connects you instantly with them.

There are already niches forming within the more than 20,000+ 30,000+ 35,137+ (on Oct 7, 2010) – 38,550+ registered users of CommentLuv (as of March 17, 2011) 41,888 (as of May 15, 2011) and the CommentLuv commuity is growing rapidly.

Whether you have a blog or not it is important that you seek out bloggers who write about subjects near and dear to your heart which for business owners means those related to the products and services you have to offer.

BLOGGERS: Welcome business owners as readers and commentators.
Invite them to share their expertise as guest bloggers.
Their experience and knowledge makes your blog even better!
Remember that they have interests beyond what they do
and interesting things to say on other subjects.

Be tolerant of those new to commenting and Social Networking and guide them in what is appropriate behavior. I am certain we have all made mistakes when we first got online. Never assume they realize what they are doing until we first explain what is expected.

BUSINESSES:  Do not spam blogs.
Do not hire SEO companies to spam blogs.
Do not turn your comments into advertisements.
DO contribute to the discussion and share what you know.

FOCUS on blogs in your niche
whose readers would be interested in what you offer.
For example, if you sell pole chain saws, do most of your commenting
in home improvement and construction related blogs.

Let CommentLuv default links guide the blog owners and readers who are interested in what you offer to your site. Use the information about default links to register your business and select anchor text that creates beneficial backlinks without detracting from the blog where they appear.

I wrote the information below in reply to a question that Mike Criss, owner of the online printing company PrintingBlue posed in my post about KeywordLuv.

I was prompted to write this post to share what I told him with all my readers including those who rarely read the comments. I highly recommend you read comments here because I share as much in them as I post!

I will also answer any questions you leave or you can use my contact form to reach me via email. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you have.

To benefit from using CommentLuv and KeywordLuv you do not have
to have them installed but I DO recommend installing at least CommentLuv.

I strongly encourage all bloggers to install at least CommentLuv and all bloggers and business owners to register to use CommentLuv.

Not long I ago I would have encouraged all bloggers to install both but there is breaking news about new features in CommentLuv that I’ll include in this reply that may make KeywordLuv unnecessary.

My KeywordLuv post explains how you as a business owner can use blogs that have KeywordLuv installed to create dofollow backlinks that will allow your site to be found in the search engines. Now you can get the same benefits by being a valuable contributor in CommentLuv blogs.

Here are some additional resources that will help you do that best:

  1. First you need to know what keyword phrases are important to you. I explain how to do that in my post about using anchor text links to build traffic and get found in the search engines.
  2. When you create content you need to consistently use those keyword phrases. I explain where and how to use them in my post about selecting keywords first and then writing copy.
  3. Since this post was written CommentLuv has added new features that allow bloggers and businesses to register default links that automatically create anchor text without having keywords in the name field (which many don’t really like). Read how to use CommentLuv default links for anchor text.
  4. If you’re not familiar with CommentLuv also read How CommentLuv works.
  5. For those who are concerned about PageRank see CommentLuv Does Not Seem to Leak Link Juice.

I strongly recommend all businesses and bloggers who want to survive the economic downturn that is NOT going to recover and IS going to get worse learn why it is inevitable that the economy is going to continue to slide (both in the U.S. and globally).

The solution is to support small businesses – both the ones online and in their local communities.

There is more about why supporting the marketing efforts of small and online businesses is critical in my post about Word of Mouth. Find out what is causing worldwide economic collapse and how you can best avoid being a victim of it by reading these last two links.

Who do you know that could use this information? Make a difference today by emailing them the link to this post. Write it down and hand it to them. If you’re ambitious print it out and give it to the businesses you use. Use the TwitThis button and add @usernames to make sure others see your Tweet.

Hi Danny,

Did you see that I am now the Editor-in-Chief for CommentLuv? Andy is even more driven than usual to enhance both the CommentLuv plugin and the ComLuv blog.

The FamousBloggers ComLuv CASH Blogging Contests will greatly raise visibility and participation. Anything you can do to help spread the word is greatly appreciated.

You might want to check out the sponsorship opportunities. We are working on a new twist that makes the contest even more exciting for bloggers and especially for sponsors.

Did you ever check out maximizing your listings in Local Search Directories? I put that post in CommentLuv in this reply.

We’re also trying the new version of commentluv. CommentLuv has been a great part of blogs and bloggers out there. Not only that increases unique visitors to a site but it also increase comments and can find interesting blog posts as well.

Hi Teena,

What many bloggers fail to recognize is that each comment left in their blog gives search engines more text to index and signals the search engines that your content is still active.

The CommentLuv featured posts allow my readers to instantly know which of my commentators has written something they would be interested in which “introduces” our readers to each others’ readers.

It can also be used the way I do here. I select the post I feature in his reply to a comment specifically for that commenter. I can often offer a post that would benefit them the most.

Thank you for taking the time to comment here. I do sincerely appreciate all those who do – including you.

Hi Gail,

For some reason, your comments end up in my spam folder– so I actually go through a ton of spams since I know you often comment, and that your posts are so insightful, it’s worth digging through a heap of garbage to find them! I am a big, big supporter of small business and have always had a heart for the underdog. That’s why I started BlitzLocal.com and have persisted, even though that side of our business continues to lose money (although we hope this will change by the end of the year).

I think CommenLuv is a great tool to help spread link juice among the little guys. I’m going to get that installed next. Although I suppose I’m not really supporting the cause if I’m using Facebook Connect, since that keeps all the data with Facebook, if I understand correctly.

Anyway, curious to hear your thoughts on whether Facebook is leveling the playing field for the little guy or out to just hoard all the data in their closed platform– to be another corporate giant (if they are not one already).

Hi Dennis,

If you read my recent post that has sparked a huge controversy and flaring tempers over how Akismet works you’ll find that the reason you have to dig through the spam folder to find my comments is that some bloggers believe my comments are spam.

There is obviously a serious problem with what the definition of spam comments is and many bloggers are actively flagging real commentators as spammers with very serious ramifications for the bloggers and businesses affected.

In many blogs their comments are instantly deleted; in others they are sent to spam where many bloggers never check for them. I have disabled Akismet in my blogs; however, comments from those flagged as spammers are not going live immediately as they should after I have approved one comment with their information.

We have not hear the end of this problem and it may eventually mean moving blogs off of WordPress entirely. I would welcome your input.

I honestly can not answer any questions specific to Facebook because I barely use it myself. My focus is on solutions that are independent of sites like Facebook. You and Jesse Stay know the most about Facebook of anyone I know.

That said, I believe that all companies controlled by the global elite will continually move towards favoring specific big brands and continually squeeze out small businesses and individuals. More specifics about that are found in my comment in the now famous SEOBook post on Google CEO’s Internet cesspool quote which I shared with you in your blog previously.

Hi Calvin,

There are some links to discussions about whether dofollow or too many outbound links effect SEO or not in my KeywordLuv post. I’ll put the link in CommentLuv in this reply. Search for “DOES DOFOLLOW NEGATIVELY AFFECT PAGE RANK?” to find that part of the discussion and a link to a big debate about that subject in another blog.

The fact that that post has tons of outbound links plus 342 dofollowed comments that have two links each and it is still PR4 is pretty strong evidence to me that it doesn’t make that much difference.

Hi Dennis,

The home page changing from PR3 to PR4 occurred at the same time that post first got pagerank. It was a fairly new but not brand new post at the time of the last update. I don’t happen to know what date the update occurred but if we could find that date we would know how long that post had been live.

My DoFollow Lists post is PR3 and has 455 comments on it now. It would have had more than 300 when the last update occurred.

Hi Udegbunam,

I wasn’t aware that Lucia’s did that because I don’t recommend using it. Perhaps someone who does can tell us if it really makes a difference in reducing spam or not. I do know that it confuses real commentators who are seeking out other dofollow bloggers to interact with on a regular basis.

My philosophy is if you’re going to be dofollow you may as well go all the way and make it obvious to those looking for you. Fortunately for those of use who plan to make good use of the CommentLuv default links for anchor text Lucia’s is not nearly as popular as some of the other dofollow plugin options.

Keywordluv will remain relevant because of two things. The new feature from commentluv is a paid one and two some dofollow plug-ins dofollow only the commenters URL and not the commentluv link. It’s a nice initiative from Andy Bailey but only time will tell if the paid model will surpass the free one.
Cheers

Thank you Udegbunam,

For those who use the US dollar the cost of using CommentLuv default anchor text links is too small to be a serious concern. For those in countries where the dollar is still strong like yours we may need a creative way to make them affordable.

Those are excellent insights. One concern with KeywordLuv is that the developer no longer uses it and is unlikely to be highly motivated to keep it working as WordPress keeps evolving. So far he has very generously kept it working and we can hope he will continue.

I have not seen any blogs that nofollow the CommentLuv field but have no doubt they exist. Would you mind sharing those with me when you come across them? You can drop the links into a comment in this post or send them to me via the contact tab here.

The cost of the default links at CommentLuv is minimal for those who are in the U.S. or U.K. We recognize that it could be more prohibitive in countries where the exchange rate makes it more expensive. If the cost is a serious burden to anyone they should contact me and I will discuss their needs with Andy.

I can’t remember where I last saw it but it is common for people who can afford costs to donate funds online so that others are not overly burdened by the difference in monetary value between countries.

I know that honest people in Nigeria may be unfairly judged because of the scams that have originated in your country over the years. I am glad you are working to assist others to tell the difference between scams and legitimate ways to make money.

Even “legit” ways to to make money are often sold to those who can actually make money the way the “guru” is doing it because they don’t have the huge lists and connections the “guru” has.

Please watch for an email from me. I have some questions to ask and a possible business idea for you.

Yes, the CommentLuv plugin is great. And, it was developed by a great person as well.

On the other hand, I am finding that people who use CommentLuv turn right around and innocently install Akismet, a plugin that not only hurts business by trashing many new visitors, but hurts relationships of all kinds.

There is a good article written about this Akismet problem by a student at Linda Christas College at:

http://www.lindachristas.org/education/akismet-spam-filter-for-wordpress-the-banning-of-the-innocent-commenter/

I have no idea at the moment if Akismet is “protecting” this site.

If it is, this comment is going to go immediately to your spam or trash bin, no questions asked, without your ever having a chance to make the judgment in terms of whether the message is worthy of the light of day.

I am about to push the enter key.

We’ll see.

CommentLuv is a great way to quickly find others that interest you. We do need to be aware though that there are bloggers using CommentLuv who do NOT welcome new visitors.

Be cautious when commenting in new blogs for the first time because some of them have stated that they WILL flag your comments as spam and get you banned as a spammer by Akismet.

What you are doing it optimum. Instead of commenting everywhere we can build stronger relationships with related blogs. As you find each other that makes it much easier for others in your niche to plug into a great group of people interested in what they are interested in.

I would love to have your group connect with the other real estate and home improvement blogs listed in our DoFollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv post. I moderate comments for Florida Millwork company Good Millwork.

They have an excellent blog and I love to highlight properties real estate bloggers have listed in their posts – especially if there are any before and after photos available. You can see an example where I did that for Brandon Real Estate in this post on how to Fix Up Homes to make money in any economy.

Hubspot has some excellent research on how blogs are driving leads and sales for businesses. I highly recommend their blog and the downloadable PDFs they offer. They also have frequent free Webinars.

I’m really looking forward to the new version of commentluv – it is by far my favorite plugin to use on my blogs and because of the huge opportunity it offers for getting quality links. Andy deserves so much credit (and piles of cash) for his efforts.

Hi Chris,

We’ve tested it in one of our other blogs and will be installing it here soon. You can request a copy of CommentLuv 2.80b and find out what’s new in the latest version of CommentLuv in that post.

I love your tips section for what Business who comment on commentluv blogs should avoid doing (especially the not using the comment for an advertisement) – it is so hard to approve comments from people who obviously are not putting any effort into the comment. Commentluv is a great plugin and blogs that use it are a wonderful blessing for website owners – it would be nice though if everyone commented courteously.

Welcome Donn,

They’ll learn eventually and more new commenters will keep arriving. Those who leave commercials probably just haven’t thought it through. If they had a blog they wouldn’t approve them.

Your site reminds me of my college days. I had a friend who had a Porshe 911 with a Sunroof and a stereo worth more than my car cost and another who restored Alfa Romeos.

If you haven’t read the post I’ve featured in CommentLuv yet definitely check it out. It will benefit your business.

I created a subdirectory blog about blogging to help other bloggers with good information and also to install comment luv there for them too since it’s reaching the blogging community. I believe that if everyone gets together to help each other out it will just grow friendships and also businesses. I love the Do Follow community. Some poeple are scared to be do follow but all you have to do is moderate comments and it will all work out.
Great points here.
Blessings,
Eren

Thanks for your support Eren. I know you’re a supporter and active in the DoFollow CommentLuv community and hope others will join us. Do check out the post I’ll feature in CommentLuv about KeywordLuv.

Even if you don’t use it on your site there is no reason not to use it to benefit your blog here and in the other blogs in the DoFollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv community.
